Surgical Technologist Program Information

We understand you don’t want to spend years in the classroom. That’s why our hands-on training program is designed for quick workplace entry. It only takes 24 months to complete our Surgical Technologist program so you can make a change and prepare to begin your new career.

Skills To Build Your Career

At Altierus, you’ll practice building real-world skills in our on-site surgical tech labs. You’ll get the chance to practice and learn how to perform critical duties such as:

  • Sterilize equipment and operating rooms for surgery
  • Provide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care
  • Assist surgeons by passing instruments
  • Maintain a sterile surgical environment

Real-World Experience

As part of our Surgical Technologist program, you’ll be matched with a local hospital or surgery center to complete clinical rotations. You’ll get the chance to practice your skills in a real healthcare setting with the guidance of working professionals. Applying skills you’ve learned in the classroom in the real world helps build your confidence so you’ll be ready to jump into your new career once you graduate.

Principles & Practices of Surgical Technology

This course is designed to provide an overall understanding of professional responsibilities and relations, interpersonal relationships and communication skills, death and dying, legal and ethical responsibilities, the operating room environment, and safety.

Anatomy & Physiology I

This course is a scientific study of the structure of the human body and its parts including relationships and functions of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous system, special senses and the endocrine systems.

Diseases of the Human Body

This course provides a study of the human body’s diseases and disorders, including signs, symptoms, etiology, diagnosis, and treatment.

Surgical Pharmacology

This course is designed to provide the student with an overall understanding of the theory and the hands-on applications involved in surgical pharmacology.

Surgical Technology I

This course is designed to provide the student with an overall understanding and the hands-on skills involved in following medical and surgical aseptic techniques and in providing basic pre-operative care to the surgical patient.
